They help promote a community of learners where students help each other no matter what. If a student does not understand something, he\/she does not have to wait for the teacher to response, but his\/her classmates can come in help clearing his\/her doubts. Both at the beginning as a way of breaking the ice with your students to get to know them and let them get to know each other AND in the course as a brainstorming activity. Schedule them regularly, every one or two weeks so that the students will know they will have to contribute to the discussions on a regular basis.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a learning activity, they should be linked to the learning objectives. Think about what you want your students to achieve from the discussion. Consider also integrating Bloom\u2019s questions to achieve your goals (from the basics to the most complex).<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Make them mandatory and assign grades.
